Job Summary

Nelson-Rudie & Associates, Inc. is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Specialist to join our team. As an Electrical Design Specialist, you will be responsible for designing electrical systems for building construction, including power, lighting, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work as a project team member on various building and construction types, collaborating with other team members to understand project scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Coordinate with and assist affected disciplines with addenda, RFPs, and incorporate agreed-upon changes into project documents.
  • Perform routine checking and verification tasks, ensuring conflicts and interferences are avoided, and coordinate with other disciplines as needed.
  • Attend project meetings, jobsite visits, and conduct on-site investigations/assessments of existing buildings as required for projects, which may involve occasional overnight travel.
  • Prepare engineering and construction drawings using Revit, AutoCAD, or MicroStation.
  • Organize and maintain all revisions of project drawings, plot files, and project-related information per company policies and procedures.
  • Assist with trouble-shooting activities and BIM system set-up and procedures.
  • Daily communication of project status with electrical project team members and internal/external disciplines as needed.
Requirements
  • Associate or technical degree in Design/Drafting Technology, Engineering Technology, or related discipline is required. Candidates with a high school degree and equivalent experience will be considered.
  • 2+ years' experience working as an electrical designer is required.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office, Revit, and AutoCAD. Knowledge of MicroStation and current electrical engineering software (e.g., Visual Lighting, AGI 32, SKM Power*Tools) is a plus. Ability to maintain skill levels within the changing technology environment.
  • Ability to navigate and apply national, state, and local codes along with industry standards (e.g., American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning-ASHRAE, International Energy Conservation Code-IECC, National Fire Protection Association-NFPA, etc.) to overall project and individual system designs.
  • Comfortable working in a high-demand, fast-paced environment with excellent attention to detail and meeting deadlines as required. Routinely self-checks own work for completeness and accuracy.
  • Organized and able to work on several projects, a multitasker, and comfortable working independently and effectively in a team environment to deliver projects.
  • Positive and professional attitude with excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with co-workers and clients in person or virtually.
  • The applicant is a U.S. citizen or U.S. resident with a valid Green Card.
