The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and supervising the Heart Failure, Transplant, and VAD program, as well as providing excellent patient care and teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. Ideal candidates will have additional formal training in pediatric heart failure/transplant or extensive experience in areas of VAD and pediatric cardiac transplant.
WVU Medicine Children's Hospital is a tertiary care center for the state of West Virginia, Western Maryland, Southwestern Pennsylvania, as well as Southeastern Ohio. We have West Virginia's only cardiothoracic surgery program and offer surgical interventions for the full range of congenital heart defects, including complex single ventricle neonates through adults with congenital heart disease.
We have a robust ECMO program with dedicated pediatric perfusionists to support cardiac and non-cardiac diseases. Our new 150-bed Children's Hospital includes dedicated cardiac operating rooms, a hybrid cardiac EP and interventional catheterization lab, and dedicated pediatric cardiac anesthesia staff.
The hospital includes 34 pediatric beds, the only level 4 NICU in the state, a dedicated Cancer Institute, a Pediatric Emergency Department with Rapid Care, and dedicated PICU and CICU services. WVU Medicine Children's is a Level 2 Pediatric Trauma Center, with plans to become Level 1, as it is for adults currently.
The Birthing Center houses a 30-bed obstetrical unit and the maternal-fetal medicine clinic. WVU Medicine Children's Hospital is the only hospital in West Virginia with a pediatric cardiac surgery program, the only epilepsy monitoring unit in the state equipped to serve children, and the only hospital in the state to receive Magnet status for nursing excellence.
The West Virginia University Health System is West Virginia's largest health system and the state's largest employer. The System has undergone significant expansion in specialty and sub-specialty care in areas such as cancer, heart and vascular, and neuroscience, among many others.
The Health System operates West Virginia's first and only multi-organ transplant center. Today, the WVU Health System has more than 2,400 licensed beds, 3,900 providers, and nearly 30,000 employees. Anchored by a 700-bed academic medical center in Morgantown, the Health System includes more than 20 member hospitals that collectively serve a multi-state region that includes West Virginia, Western Maryland, Eastern Ohio, and Southwestern Pennsylvania.

Depending on operational needs, a successful candidate may also be assigned to provide services at additional worksites in West Virginia to provide outreach clinic services. In such instances, travel would be anticipated and expected to fulfill said duties at these additional sites.
