Job Summary

Orthopedic Physicians Alaska Inc is seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our team. As a Medical Laboratory Scientist, you will be responsible for performing laboratory testing, calibrating equipment, and maintaining quality control. You will work in a clinical laboratory environment, frequently exposed to communicable disease, toxic substances, and blood-borne pathogens.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform waived and moderate-complexity patient laboratory testing.
  • Calibrate laboratory equipment to ensure accuracy.
  • Perform background count and run quality control tests.
  • Monitor and record refrigerator, freezer, humidity, and room temperatures.
  • Participate in proficiency testing and CAP surveys.
  • Perform microscopic techniques and procedures.
  • Process patient samples for testing.
  • Analyze critical lab results and notify providers when necessary.
  • Determine specimen validity and integrity.
  • Interpret, evaluate, and verify test results.
  • Resolve inconsistent patient results and document appropriately.
  • Maintain and perform scheduled maintenance on lab analyzers and equipment.
  • Provide support to other lab staff when necessary.
  • Maintain good communication and interpersonal skills with manager, staff, and providers.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Clinical Laboratory or equivalent certification.
  • Minimum of one to two years of clinical laboratory experience.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure.

Work Environment

Work is performed in a clinical laboratory environment. The position involves frequent exposure to communicable disease, toxic substances, blood-borne pathogens, and other conditions common to a laboratory environment.
