Orthopedic Physicians Alaska Inc is seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our team. As a Medical Laboratory Scientist, you will be responsible for performing laboratory testing, calibrating equipment, and maintaining quality control. You will work in a clinical laboratory environment, frequently exposed to communicable disease, toxic substances, and blood-borne pathogens.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform waived and moderate-complexity patient laboratory testing.
- Calibrate laboratory equipment to ensure accuracy.
- Perform background count and run quality control tests.
- Monitor and record refrigerator, freezer, humidity, and room temperatures.
- Participate in proficiency testing and CAP surveys.
- Perform microscopic techniques and procedures.
- Process patient samples for testing.
- Analyze critical lab results and notify providers when necessary.
- Determine specimen validity and integrity.
- Interpret, evaluate, and verify test results.
- Resolve inconsistent patient results and document appropriately.
- Maintain and perform scheduled maintenance on lab analyzers and equipment.
- Provide support to other lab staff when necessary.
- Maintain good communication and interpersonal skills with manager, staff, and providers.
Requirements
- Associate degree in Clinical Laboratory or equivalent certification.
- Minimum of one to two years of clinical laboratory experience.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask and work under pressure.
Work Environment
Work is performed in a clinical laboratory environment. The position involves frequent exposure to communicable disease, toxic substances, blood-borne pathogens, and other conditions common to a laboratory environment.
