Job Summary

This role will work closely with the Materials Manager to manage material, transportation, and inventory needs of the plant, ensuring the team meets monthly goals while analyzing performance metrics and supervising the department efficiently and cost-effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Establish data base parameters for Material Requirement Planning (MRP) and related production software systems, driving accuracy and efficiency.

  • Assist in developing and maintaining business practices, procedures, and documentation to control supplier releases, incoming material shipments, receiving documents, inventory levels, material storage, and movement, as well as shipments to customers.

  • Monitor customer schedule changes and recover premium freight costs as required, minimizing disruptions.

  • Oversee subordinate activities, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of all materials-related record keeping.

  • Measure supplier performance against established quality and delivery standards, fostering strong partnerships.

  • Maintain the Bill of Material Database, monitoring its effectiveness and implementing changes as needed.

  • Minimize inventory levels on balance-out parts and submit obsolescence claims when necessary, optimizing resources.

  • Foster excellent customer relations through effective supplier delivery performance.

  • Evaluate job performance of subordinates, utilizing employee training and development per Company policy.

  • Document and manage supplier delivery performance, including on-time delivery, shipment accuracy, packaging issues, etc.

  • Ensure compliance with BOS and IATF requirements applicable to this position.

  • Safely operate all material handling equipment and perform maintenance duties.

  • Ensure timely licensing requirements and testing for team members operating material handling equipment.

  • Verify adherence to storage and racking safety standards.

  • Develop and maintain business practices, procedures, and documentation to ensure standard receiving procedures and reporting receiving discrepancies.

  • Establish business practices, procedures, and documentation to control standard shipping procedures, documentations, and record keeping for returnable container tracking, including damaged containers and repairs.

  • Set goals and action plans for continued reduction in packaging, material handling, and departments' purchase expenses.

  • Update and identify improvements for Indirect Labor Tool for managing material handling efficiency.

  • Measure production downtime caused by material handling and replenishment processes.

  • Pursue continued reduction in transportation, package handling, and piece price, as well as inventory levels.

  • Analyze Truckload Utilization Management (TUMS) daily and report potential cost savings from freight mode changes.

  • Evaluate job performance of subordinates for employee training and development utilization per Company policy.

  • Maintain compliance with Company customs processes and procedures.

  • Demonstrate working knowledge of customer-specific requirements.

  • Perform miscellaneous duties assigned by Department Manager.

Education and/or Experience:

  • College degree in supply chain management or business administration or equivalent.

  • Minimum five years of experience in supervisory positions at progressively higher levels, preferably in an automotive/manufacturing environment.

EHS and EMS Responsibilities:

  • Participate actively in Health/Safety/Environmental investigations and the 8D process to develop root cause analysis for problem resolution.

  • Ensure completion of required Safety Audits for yourself and your team.

  • Report accidents, occupational illnesses, and HSE&E emergencies, and inform supervisor of known HSE&E conditions that could adversely affect other team members, assets, or the public.

  • Support the plant in achieving safety goals and maintaining AMS objectives.

  • Follow and promote environmental management system compliance and commitment to resource conservation.
