The role of a Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) is integral to the surgical team, providing essential patient care during the preoperative phase. This nursing professional collaborates closely with the surgeon, taking on the responsibilities of first assistant, while also engaging in the assessment, planning, implementation, coordination, monitoring, and evaluation of patient care activities.
About CHRISTUS Health:CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital - Westover Hills is a 150-bed facility dedicated to serving the rapidly expanding community of San Antonio. Our hospital specializes in a wide range of medical services, including orthopedic and surgical care, intensive care, women's health, a newborn nursery, and comprehensive cardiovascular services, from diagnostics to open-heart surgery. Additional services include a vascular lab, sleep center, emergency care, the CHRISTUS Weight Loss Institute, wound care, rehabilitation, and more.
The campus features an Outpatient Imaging Center and multiple medical plazas, one of which is home to our Family Medicine Residency Program and Family Health Center.
Qualifications:
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program
- Completion of an approved RNFA course, including the necessary internship hours
- Two to five years of experience in an operating room setting
- Demonstrated proficiency in preoperative nursing practices, serving as both scrub and circulating nurse with diverse operating room experience
- Current Texas State RN license
- CPR certification from the American Heart Association
- ACLS certification within six months of hire or transfer
- Certification as a preoperative nurse (CNOR) is required
