Job Objective:
The Educational Support Specialist provides a variety of classroom assistance and personal care services tailored to meet the needs of each student, fostering their academic and personal growth.
This role includes delivering both academic and non-academic support to ensure equitable access and opportunities for all students.Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED.
Meet one of the following:
Associate's Degree or higher, 48 semester hours, or passing score on State Board of Education ParaPro Assessment.
Valid Ohio Department of Education Educational Aide Permit with the ESEA Endorsement.
Documentation of a clear criminal record.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions of the Position:
- Collaborates with the teacher for guidance, working with small groups or individual students, and seeks clarification when needed.
- Adheres to board policies, follows administrative procedures, and complies with the Employee Code of Conduct.
- Promotes a positive image of the school district.
- Assists students with remedial and enrichment activities, reinforcing instructional materials provided by the teacher.
- Engages students in learning activities aligned with Ohio's Learning Standards under the teacher's direction.
- Offers assistance when students request help or exhibit signs of needing support, while maintaining discretion.
- Supports an inclusive educational environment, facilitating participation for students with disabilities in peer group activities.
- Assists with student mobility and the use of assistive devices as needed.
- Positions students effectively within the learning environment to maximize their engagement.
- Provides personal hygiene assistance as trained by a licensed healthcare professional.
- Supports students during meal times, adhering to sanitation procedures.
- Actively participates in recreational activities as directed.
- Supervises classroom and non-instructional duties as assigned.
- Monitors students who are unwell until a guardian arrives.
- Respects personal privacy and maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Maintains high standards and upholds the student conduct code.
- Collaborates with the classroom teacher to address ongoing behavioral issues.
- Supervises non-classroom activities as directed (e.g., arrival/departure, lunch, recess, field trips, library, computer lab, etc.).
- Encourages proper use and care of school property, reporting any issues as necessary.
- Reports any suspected child abuse as mandated by law.
- Performs clerical tasks related to classroom activities, including preparing and distributing teaching materials.
- Prepares classroom equipment for use (e.g., computers, media resources, etc.).
- Maintains order in program and storage areas.
- Participates in parent conferences, open houses, and other required school events.
- Takes precautions to ensure student safety, never leaving students unsupervised.
- Engages in extra-curricular activities as directed.
- Participates in professional development opportunities and meetings as required.
- Accepts personal responsibility for actions and conduct.
- Maintains a professional appearance and appropriate work attire.
- Strives to build rapport and serve as a positive role model.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
