Job Overview: This job description outlines the fundamental responsibilities and expectations for the Mechanical Engineer Level III position. It is intended to serve as a general guideline and is not a binding employment contract.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop mechanical systems design and integrate designs for both government and commercial shipbuilding projects.
- Collaborate independently and with a team of engineers across various disciplines, including procurement and project management.
- Conduct research and analysis, including project evaluations, compliance with regulations, and relevant data analysis.
- Manage change scoping, assess impacts on design documentation, and create or modify design drawings using AutoCAD.
- Review technical documents, diagrams, and performance analyses of mechanical systems and equipment.
- Coordinate with project stakeholders to ensure that deliverables meet contractual obligations.
- Assist in the preparation of detailed action plans and deficiency reports to support project objectives.
- Facilitate the integration of designs into production, working closely with shipyard personnel.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
May lead a team and provide mentorship to junior engineers.
Reporting Structure:
This position reports to the Mechanical Engineering Department Manager.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Marine Engineering is required.
- A minimum of 15 years of experience in commercial marine or government shipbuilding is essential.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with a high degree of accuracy.
- Experience in reviewing and directing the work of other engineers.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD, with the capability to learn department-specific software.
- U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident status is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with CDRL Development and ABS NVR is highly desirable.
