Job Overview

Position Summary:

As a Cybersecurity Systems Engineer, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding our computing environments. Your primary responsibility will be to conduct or evaluate technical security assessments to pinpoint vulnerabilities and ensure compliance with established Information Assurance (IA) standards and regulations. You will also provide strategic recommendations for risk mitigation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform thorough evaluations of security architectures, firewall settings, IDS/IPS, and security controls for both existing and proposed systems.
  • Proactively identify and address risks to high-value assets to ensure their protection.
  • Develop and manage comprehensive physical, personnel, and procedural security programs.
  • Architect, design, implement, and assess security-focused tools and services, taking on project leadership roles as necessary.
  • Offer guidance on software vulnerability remediation to development teams.
  • Implement continuous monitoring and patch verification through security vulnerability testing tools.
  • Conduct product testing and evaluation in a controlled lab environment.
  • Review certification and accreditation (C&A) documentation, providing constructive feedback on its completeness and compliance.
  • Possess knowledge of 8570 controls, ensuring information systems meet compliance standards through effective testing and creation of test cases.
  • Demonstrate expertise in incident response, including the creation, execution, and reporting of related activities.
  • Utilize knowledge of network security technologies such as Firewalls, IDS/IPS, VLANs, and routing.
  • Understand virtualization technologies, including virtual firewalls and network segmentation.
  • Manage networking and firewall configuration and monitoring tasks.
  • Utilize SIEM technologies, such as Splunk, to create security event dashboards.
  • Identify, contain, and eradicate malware threats.
  • Manage access control systems, PKI, multi-factor authentication, and entitlements management.
  • Exhibit proficiency in both Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Contribute to the development of security policies and procedures.
  • Provide detailed security recommendations for the secure development and maintenance of systems.
  • Evaluate and recommend emerging security products and technologies.
  • Engage in projects that foster the development of new intellectual property.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exhibit strong leadership and teamwork capabilities.
  • Maintain a results-oriented, high-energy, and self-motivated approach.
  • Be prepared to respond to after-hours requests as necessary in a 24/7 operational environment.

Required Certifications:

  • Compliance with DoD 8570 IASAE Level 3 is mandatory.

Experience and Education Requirements:

  • A minimum of fourteen (14) years of experience as an Information Systems Security Engineer on programs and contracts of similar scope and complexity within the Federal Government.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Assurance, Information Security System Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Four (4) years of additional ISSE experience may substitute for a Bachelor's degree.

Clearance Requirement: An active TS/SCI with Polygraph security clearance is essential for consideration.
