Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join our team at Northwell Health. As a Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for collecting blood samples from patients in a safe and efficient manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess the physical condition of the site to be used for blood collection and select the appropriate equipment for the chosen method of collection.
  • Draw blood from adult, pediatric, and infant patients, and conduct appropriate specimen delivery to the laboratory.
  • Interpret and verify orders, including patient identification, and calculate the quantity needed for diagnostic studies.
  • Label specimens according to policy and maintain phlebotomy supply levels.
  • Follow approved standard precautions, including aseptic techniques, protective gear, and discard of contaminated equipment.
  • Instruct patients regarding the collection of blood, urine, sputum, and stool specimens, nasal swabs, and process specimens to the proper area of the lab.
  • Identify and communicate problems to appropriate supervision and restock lab supplies.
  • Assess the type of blood work required for elective pre-op patients according to policy and requirements.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Current Phlebotomy Technician Certification preferred, plus specialized certifications as needed.
