WHAT DOES A CHILD WELFARE SUPPORT SPECIALIST DO?A Child Welfare Support Specialist collaborates with the case management team in the field, providing essential services to families and children across various social service initiatives. A typical day may involve:
Overseeing visitation sessions between clients (parents and children) Assisting Case Managers with documentation, disclosures, and case notes Inputting case information into the digital Case Management System Transporting children to appointments as required Aiding clients with application processes when necessary Participating in meetings and client hearings as neededFlexibility in work hours may be necessary, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
WHAT KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES ARE HELPFUL (KSAs)?Knowledge of:
Computer systems and software (Microsoft Office Suite), mobile technology, digital scheduling tools (Outlook), and video conferencing platforms (Microsoft Teams).
Skill in:
Building and maintaining interpersonal relationships; performing clerical tasks such as data entry and filing; effective verbal and written communication; gathering and analyzing information; demonstrating professional conduct with clients; managing time efficiently and multitasking; and observing details.
Ability to:
Acquire knowledge about human and social services; understand and comply with relevant State, Federal, and local regulations, as well as DCS policies; adhere to casework principles; interpret and follow moderately complex instructions; organize information logically; prepare accurate written reports; actively listen and provide supportive attention to clients; and obtain and maintain CPR Certification.
WHAT IS REQUIRED TO BE A CHILD WELFARE SUPPORT SPECIALIST? High school diploma or GED Valid driver's license issued by the state. Level one Fingerprint Clearance card - Arizona. Employees driving on State business must maintain a current, valid driver's license and complete all necessary training and checks. Candidates must successfully pass a written examination, background investigation, Motor Vehicle Report check, and DCS Center Registry check. If driving is an essential function of the role, additional driver's license requirements apply.
