Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Water Safety Instructor to join our team at the City of Miami, FL. As a Water Safety Instructor, you will be responsible for instructing, leading, demonstrating, and organizing classes and competitions in water safety, life saving procedures, swimming, and/or other similar programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Organize, lead, demonstrate, and instruct classes in water safety, life saving procedures, swimming, and/or other similar programs at beginning or advanced levels to adults and/or children.
  • Promote water safety events sponsored by the City of Miami.
  • Assist the Parks Aquatic Coordinator or designee in the scheduling of Learn to Swim and water safety programs.
  • Observe and analyze students' performance and instruct them in techniques and strategies.
  • Demonstrate proper use of equipment.
  • Explain and enforce required safety rules and regulations.
  • Conduct periodic inspections of equipment and/or facilities for cleanliness and safety.
  • Prepare work orders for necessary repairs or replacements.
  • Maintain accurate records of receipts and expenditures.
  • May prepare or maintain reports.
Requirements
  • Applicants must be 16 years of age.
  • The following valid certificates, and/or wallet card(s) must be possessed at time of application and maintained valid throughout employment: Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and Standard First Aid issued by the American Red Cross or other nationally recognized certifying agency.
  • Some six (6) months experience working with persons with disabilities may be preferred.
  • Must be able to pass the City of Miami's performance test, which may include swimming, running, and simulated rescue exercises.
Working Conditions

Employees in this classification will be required to work various shifts, to include nights, holidays, and weekends.

Documentation Requirements

Applicants, including City of Miami employees, must upload and submit attached copies of the following documents with the employment application: Proof of Age, and copies of the following documents issued by the American Red Cross or other nationally recognized certifying agency: Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and First Aid.
