Design and Develop Avionics Solutions for Space Exploration

At Blue Origin, we are working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. We are seeking an Avionics Mechanical Design and Analysis Engineer to join our diverse team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight.

This role will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable space flight. You will develop and execute the design of avionics electronic hardware used to operate rocket engines in space.

Responsibilities:
  • Design of ruggedized avionics enclosures
  • Drawing creation and release
  • Thermal and structural analysis
  • Contract manufacturer selection and management
  • Creation and execution of acceptance and qualification test plans
Requirements:
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
  • Ability to work effectively in teams
  • Ability to be self-directed and balance several tasks at one time
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiar with FEA tools (ANSYS preferred)
  • Understanding of structural analysis/mechanics
  • Working knowledge of 3D CAD programs (Creo Pro/E preferred)
  • Experience with GD&T implementation and analysis (ASME Y14.5)
  • Experience with Creo, Windchill, ANSYS, ICEPAK
  • Experience with fatigue analysis and fracture mechanics (hand calcs, NASGRO, VCCT, etc.)
  • Experience with structural and/or thermal analysis
  • Experience designing ruggedized electronics enclosures or similar high-performance hardware
  • Familiarity with aerospace industry standard structural analysis methods (Bruhn, Marks', Shigley, Sherlock)
  • Familiarity with vibration isolators
