Key Responsibilities:- Assist patients into exam rooms in a prompt and efficient manner.
- Take vital signs and prepare patients for exams in an accurate and appropriate manner.
- Transport patients safely and efficiently.
- Assist with patient care as needed, including setup and teardown of procedures.
- Prepare and mail preparation instructions to patients as necessary.
- Document patient information in the electronic health record (EHR) accurately and efficiently.
- Perform EKG testing as ordered and enter charges in a timely manner.
- Perform venipuncture safely and accurately and submit orders as necessary.
- Administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, enter charges, and document patient information.
- Assist patients with maintaining updated medication records.
- Call prescriptions into pharmacies accurately and timely.
- Assist in educating patients about medications and their side effects.
- Demonstrate knowledge of isolation procedures.
- Clean and maintain equipment according to policy.
- Transport instruments and equipment safely.
- Prepare specimens for lab in a safe and timely manner.
- Check and put away sterilized instruments in exam rooms.
- Determine call direction in an accurate, efficient, and friendly manner.
- Take accurate messages and deliver them in a timely manner.
- Orchestrate effective communication over multiple phone lines for both incoming and outgoing calls.
- Confirm all upcoming appointments by phone.
- Maintain accurate statistics for patient care.
- Schedule, acknowledge, and edit all physician schedules on the computer system.
- Assist the front office as needed.
- Retrieve and handle voicemail messages as necessary and document all encounters with patients in the EHR.
- Sort mail and deliver it to physician areas.
- Organize and retrieve referral letters and information pertinent to patient care.
- Assist in complying with pre-certification needs for testing and therapies.
- Stock rooms with necessary supplies as requested.
- Maintain security systems as necessary.
- Carry out provider orders, including authorization of refills according to established protocols.
- Act as a liaison between providers and patients, communicating essential instructions given by providers and implementing patient care plans.
- Assist providers by scribing physical exams, provider orders, initiating visit plans, and providing patient education.
- Evaluate patient conditions by accurately performing physical and psychosocial assessments as recommended.
- Document patient information completely and accurately, according to protocol, within the EHR.
- Strong verbal, written, and listening communication skills.
- Exceptional organizational skills, able to multitask.
- Able to perform basic medical assisting skills.
- Must be able to operate office and medical equipment.
- Additional education and training beyond high school is required.
- Minimum of 1 year prior medical assisting experience preferred.
- Must complete Family Team Care training.
- Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
