Position OverviewAs a key member of our North American Hand Tools division, the Senior Project Engineer will report directly to the Director of R&D. This role is pivotal in guiding a team of Product Development Engineers dedicated to the research, development, and successful market introduction of innovative products.Key Responsibilities
1. Oversee and manage the cost, quality, and delivery aspects of new product development initiatives, as well as current product enhancements and cost reduction programs.
2. Serve as the Subject Matter Expert for the product categories under your purview, which include measuring & layout, storage, and lifting solutions.
3. Act as a vital source of expertise regarding technologies, processes, and cost factors related to product design.
4. Collaborate closely with the Project Management Office to ensure adherence to project timelines, driving new product development projects with urgency and proactive action.
5. Engage with suppliers, manufacturing engineering, and operations teams to troubleshoot issues and optimize designs for manufacturability and efficiency, ensuring cost-effective and manufacturable designs.Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
2. A minimum of 10 years of experience in part design, material selection, processing, tooling design, failure analysis, and testing.
3. Preferred experience of 3+ years in a leadership role with a proven history of successful product launches.
4. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both domestic and international cross-functional teams.
5. An innovative mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement for oneself, the team, and processes.
6. Proficient in complex problem-solving techniques related to technical challenges.
7. Strong instincts and sound judgment in mechanical and structural design.
8. Excellent analytical abilities, capable of planning, organizing, and executing multiple concurrent tasks.
9. Familiarity with CAD software such as CREO, SolidWorks, or Inventor, with a preference for CREO.
10. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Design for Six Sigma is advantageous.
11. Understanding of fits & finishes and GD&T, as well as familiarity with PPAP, DFM/A, DVP&R, DFMEA, and PFMEA.
