Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Paraeducator to join our team at Fayette County Public Schools. As a Paraeducator, you will provide critical support to our kindergarten teachers, helping to create a positive and inclusive learning environment for our students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist teachers in providing instruction to individual or small groups of students, reinforcing and implementing instructional strategies as directed.
  • Monitor and report student progress, maintaining accurate records and communicating effectively with teachers and parents.
  • Participate in instructional teams, developing relationships with parents and colleagues, and serving as a resource person for student personnel evaluation teams.
  • Transport students to and from activities, assist in preparation, and perform routine clerical duties in support of classroom activities.
  • Prepare and organize lessons, administer and score tests, and assist in determining English proficiency of identified students.
  • Assist in administering diagnostic tests, scoring and recording test information, and implementing student IEPs as necessary.
  • Monitor and report student behavior, check and assist students with lab work, and perform routine clerical duties.
  • Provide support to teachers by setting up work areas, displays, and exhibits, operating audio-visual equipment, and distributing and collecting supplies.
  • Assist in overseeing students while in labs or other activities, provide for supplies inventory, and assist students with physical tasks.
  • Assist students by providing emotional support, a friendly attitude, and general guidance, and confer with teachers concerning programs and materials to meet student needs.
  • Contact parents of students who are absent, and make home visits as necessary.
  • Assure the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and regulations.
  • Direct group activities of students, assist in monitoring lunchroom and playground activities, and participate in meetings and in-service training programs.
Requirements
  • Minimum 48 college credit hours or successful completion of the Kentucky Paraeducator's Assessment or completion of an Associates Degree and experience working with youth in an organized setting and some instructional experience in a classroom environment working with children and parents with special needs, multicultural and multi-ethnic backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of basic subjects taught in District schools, including arithmetic, grammar, spelling, language, and reading.
  • Safe practices in classroom and playground activities.
  • Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Basic record-keeping techniques.
Working Conditions
  • Work is performed while standing, sitting, and/or walking.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.
  • Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
  • Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching.
  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull light weights, up to 30 pounds.
