Position Summary

The Senior Recreational Therapist is responsible for creating, executing, and assessing tailored Recreational Therapy programs for individuals facing physical, social, emotional, and cognitive challenges. This role is integral to the interdisciplinary team, ensuring holistic patient care.


Key Responsibilities

Patient Care Delivery:
  • Conducts comprehensive assessments as directed and formulates personalized treatment strategies.
  • Engages in collaborative treatment discussions with the healthcare team.
  • Facilitates therapeutic activities in both group and individual settings.
  • Educates patients and their families about therapeutic options.
  • Oversees discharge planning and compiles discharge documentation in accordance with established protocols.
  • Identifies and communicates any changes in patient status and addresses issues related to care delivery.

Documentation:

Maintains accurate records including initial assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge instructions, adhering to all relevant policies and procedures.


Professional Development:
  • Maintains necessary certifications and licensure.
  • Meets the criteria for the Level IV clinical ladder.
  • Completes personal development goals as part of the annual evaluation process.
  • Participates in ongoing education to enhance professional skills.
  • Supervises interns and volunteers as needed.
  • Contributes to departmental committees and assists in operational tasks.

Additionally, the therapist will:

  • Act as a mentor for students and staff in the field of Recreational Therapy.
  • Provide educational sessions to enhance understanding of Recreational Therapy among non-specialist staff.
  • Seek opportunities for specialized training relevant to specific patient populations.
  • Contribute to the development of program goals and policies.
  • Manage inventory and supplies necessary for program execution.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives and ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Therapeutic Recreation or a related field.
  • Current North Carolina Recreational Therapy licensure (LRT).
  • Certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership and advanced knowledge in Recreational Therapy practices.
