About the Role:
  • The Vice President of Student Success will serve as the Chief Student Success Officer and advise the President of the College on matters related to Student Success.
  • They will shape an engaging student experience in all areas of Student Success by providing leadership and oversight for the development, management, assessment, and quality improvement of student services.
  • The successful candidate will collaborate with other members of the President's Cabinet to develop and implement strategic and operational initiatives that enhance student success and service excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership and oversight for the development, management, assessment, and quality improvement of student services, including student recruitment and retention, enrollment management, admissions, placement/testing, orientation, registration and records, financial aid, student activities and organizations, career development, counseling, and due process.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and external stakeholders to develop and implement strategies that enhance student success and service excellence.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, and trustees to support the College's ability to fulfill its mission.
  • Develop, refine, implement, and evaluate strategies to meet institutional goals for enrollment, persistence, graduation, transfer, placement, and the changing needs of the RCC student body.
  • Provide effective intervention and resolution for students facing barriers to their success, including student outreach, follow-up, and support surrounding student-related crises.
  • Administer the College's Student Code of Conduct and act as the student conduct officer, adjudicating student disciplinary matters when required.
  • Act as an advocate and mediator for student concerns/issues and as an agent in promoting positive institutional change.
  • Implement and maintain policies and procedures that ensure legal compliance with FERPA, Title IX, and other relevant laws and regulations.
Requirements:
  • Doctoral degree preferred, but a master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university will be considered.
  • 10 years of progressively responsible, innovative, dynamic student affairs leadership experience, including 7 years of multi-functional supervision.
  • A successful record of administration, including planning, financial resource and personnel management, student information systems, and program development.
  • Demonstrated understanding of how student affairs and academic affairs operate collaboratively to prepare students for success both in the classroom and beyond graduation.
  • Superb written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to communicate with clarity and transparency and possess a strong capacity to negotiate conflict.
  • A commitment to a One College model, with compassion for all students and a willingness to work with all faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • Active leadership in the areas of student development and theories of learning.
  • Possess a high degree of authenticity, visibility, and openness to students and employees.
  • Experience with crisis management planning and response in an educational setting.
  • Demonstrated competency in institutional planning and budget development.
  • A proven ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and the external community and provide exemplary service to all.
  • Demonstrated ambition, drive, and a growth mindset related to leadership and career progression.
  • Open to change and willing to inspire others to transform and further the mission of the college.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in the North Carolina Community College System.
  • Demonstrated community and professional services at local and national levels.
  • Familiarity with legal issues in higher education.
  • Successful grant-writing experience.
