Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain a neat and well-groomed appearance at all times, adhering to company dress code and wearing an approved hat or hair net and uniform.
  • Assist in receiving and unloading merchandise, checking and verifying receiving to ensure accurate delivery, and inspecting products for quality, count, and condition.
  • Rotate bakery ingredients and merchandise according to store policy and product code dates, using the oldest products first.
  • Take stock to storage or shelf areas, reducing out-of-code merchandise daily for quick sale to maintain department image.
  • Wrap, package, and price products accurately and legibly, answering phones and taking special orders, and greeting customers to the store when encountered.
  • Control excessive use of utilities and water, observing sound conservation practices, and maintaining general housekeeping and a regular cleaning program that meets department standards.
  • Check refrigeration equipment for proper performance at least once per shift, using and maintaining equipment in an orderly manner, and securing registers prior to leaving them unattended.
  • Observe shift operating hours at all times as scheduled or assigned by Bakery team leader, keeping managers or other designated personnel informed of low inventory conditions or excessive spoilage problems.
  • Adhere to all local, state, and federal health and civil code regulations, performing any other work-related duties as assigned.
Requirements and Conditions
  • High school education or equivalent preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of one year experience in full bakery operations and procedures, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Health department training required.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts, complete required reports, and communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and customers.
  • Knowledge of various types of products carried in the department, ability to handle special orders, and thorough knowledge of baking tasks and safety considerations.
  • Ability to work with bakery ingredients and spices, tolerate moderate amounts of dust and chemical fumes, and work in a fast-paced environment with occasional exposure to refrigerated frozen food storage areas and heated ovens.
