Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Academic Tutor to join our team at Children's Aid. As an Academic Tutor, you will work closely with chronically absent youth to address attendance barriers and help them achieve educational outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify causes of poor attendance and collaborate with CAS staff and DOE to find solutions
  • Provide academic tutoring, lead activities, and organize events to support student success
  • Check-in daily with a caseload of youth and meet with them regularly to discuss their academic progress and needs
  • Track attendance and celebrate improvements
  • Work with school and site leadership to identify appropriate interventions to support and engage the mentee
  • Seek advice and identify targeted sources of youth or family supports from appropriate school staff and community-based partners
  • Keep notes about youth attendance patterns, needs, and interventions
  • Attend weekly/bi-weekly student success meetings to share best practices and challenges
Requirements
  • Associate's degree required, Bachelor's preferred
  • 2-3 years of experience in youth development, with proficiency in Science and Math subjects
  • Experience working with the high school population
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent classroom management skills and ability to employ behavior management techniques
  • Understanding of and sensitivity to the emotional, social, and academic needs of students
  • Ability to motivate, stimulate, and challenge students to commit, participate, and remain engaged
