Position Overview

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a dedicated Staff Civil or Environmental Engineer to join our Remediation Department within the Environmental Global Practice. This role involves collaboration on a diverse range of environmental investigation and remediation initiatives, contributing to our reputation as a leading employee-owned firm recognized for excellence in workplace culture.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and conduct soil and groundwater sampling, data interpretation, and groundwater modeling across multidisciplinary projects, including remedial investigations and feasibility assessments.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, including reports, work plans, and project specifications.
  • Support the development and management of project scopes, timelines, budgets, and team coordination.
  • Engage effectively with colleagues, clients, and regulatory bodies.
  • Exhibit strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Conduct environmental site assessments and collect various environmental samples.
  • Prepare a variety of permitting applications, including those related to air quality and land use.
  • Review environmental investigation plans and feasibility studies.
  • Assist in managing subcontractor activities and field operations.
  • Contribute to the design of remediation systems, including in-situ remedies and water treatment solutions.
  • Participate in the environmental design process of remediation projects from initial concepts to final design.
  • Assist in client presentations and contract management.
  • Fulfill Site Manager duties for remediation projects, overseeing all phases from investigation to site closure.
  • Collaborate closely with project teams to ensure successful project delivery within established parameters.
  • Complete project tasks efficiently and within budgeted hours.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) exam is highly preferred; a Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience is required, with 6 years being highly desirable.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training is mandatory.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work systematically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and teamwork skills.
  • Familiarity with State and Federal regulations is advantageous.
  • Self-motivated with the capacity to manage multiple tasks effectively.
