Job Summary

The Nurse Residency Program at Reston Hospital Center provides a comprehensive and supportive environment for new graduate nurses to transition into practice. This paid program offers a year-long series of learning experiences, including:

  • Collaborative work on an evidence-based practice project to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings.

Responsibilities

The RN Resident coordinates and delivers high-quality, patient-centered care in accordance with the nature and specific requirements of the department. In collaboration with medical providers and other members of the care team, the RN Resident:

  • Assesses patient condition during admission and during each shift, identifying and reporting any changes in patient status.
  • Performs procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s), documenting the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Administers prescribed medications, monitoring patient response and notifying the provider and intervening as appropriate in the event of an unintended response.
  • Provides exceptional care by responding promptly to patient requests, anticipating patient needs, and resolving them proactively.
  • Teaches patients, families, and caregivers about patient medical condition, treatment plan, medications, and possible side effects, translating complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, the RN Resident must possess:

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) obtained within 30 days of employment.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) obtained within 1 year of employment.
  • Other certifications may be required during employment.
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
  • Registered Nurse License or Graduate Nurse in the State.
  • No previous experience is necessary.
  • Some travel may be required for training.
