- Carry out orders by veterinarians and carefully monitor patients, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Be proficient in taking digital x-rays with proper positioning and restraint of animals, adhering to safety protocols.
- Draw blood samples and collect stool and urine samples, handling them with care and attention to detail.
- Perform laboratory tests, such as CBC, chemistries, urinalysis, etc., accurately and efficiently.
- Place IV catheters and monitor IV fluid administration, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Administer and monitor anesthetics, following established protocols and guidelines.
- Prepare IV medications following necessary safety procedures, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
- Prepare animals for procedures and assist veterinarians with procedures, maintaining a calm and professional demeanor.
- Assure patients are kept as clean and comfortable as possible, adhering to infection control protocols.
- Follow proper procedures for the administration of drugs, including documentation for controlled substances.
- Operate within OSHA standards, prioritizing safety for patients, clients, and co-workers.
- Be prepared to act in an emergency situation, remaining calm and professional.
- Accurately fill prescriptions and carefully handle medications for proper inventory control.
- Prepare treatment plan estimates and deliver them to clients, providing clear and concise information.
- Compassionately educate clients on their pet's treatment options and explain treatment plans, ensuring understanding and satisfaction.
- Keep animal care areas clean and clutter-free, maintaining a safe and healthy environment.
- Actively pursue additional training and education by reading journals and participating in rounds, staying up-to-date on the latest advancements in veterinary medicine.
- Attend team and staff meetings, contributing ideas and constructive feedback, and modeling exceptional care and service for clients, pet owners, and referring veterinarians.
- Self-starter and able to take direction from veterinarians and practice managers, prioritizing teamwork and collaboration.
- Able to multi-task and keep the flow efficient for internal medicine, cardiology, and/or radiology, ensuring seamless patient care.
- Aid veterinarians in achieving greater efficiency by relieving them of technical work and administrative detail, freeing them to focus on patient care.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 1-2 years experience as a veterinary technician in a veterinary hospital preferred.
- Able to be active, sitting, walking, standing, kneeling, and stooping for long periods of time.
- Able to bend at waist and knees repeatedly throughout shift.
- Can push, and pull, has full use of hands/fingers, and reach above shoulders for an extended period of time.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- Able to work well under pressure and at high levels of stress.
- Hearing, vision, and speech at a functional level.
- Exposure to supplies commonly used in a hospital setting, such as anesthetic gases and radiation, within appropriate OSHA standards.
