Physician Coding Educator

The Coding Educator (CE) is a key point of contact that supports coding and documentation initiatives across CHRISTUS Health. This role is responsible for providing education and training on coding guidelines, medical policies, and documentation best practices to operational leaders, physicians, and advanced practice providers.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement training programs to ensure compliance with coding and documentation standards
- Provide education and support to physicians and APPs on clinical documentation integrity, coding guidelines, and risk areas
- Collaborate with coding operations, compliance, and revenue cycle teams to ensure uniform understanding and application of CDI and coding guidelines
- Proactively identify opportunities for improvement and develop recommendations through data analysis
- Develop curriculum and materials for documentation training programs
- Research and respond to complex coding questions
- Communicate updates on coding or documentation issues
- High School diploma or equivalent experience required
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- 5 years of experience in advanced professional coding preferred
- 3 years of experience in coding training and/or education preferred
- Experience conducting training/educational sessions for professional staff
- Physician documentation audit experience is preferred
- Experience evaluating coding audits & quality performance preferred
- Experience in a large, independent clinic organization or the ambulatory environment of a hospital or integrated delivery system required
- Experience in Multispecialty Practice highly preferred
- Must be certified through American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) OR must be certified though the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification required
- Dual specialty certification is required; CPMA or CDEO preferred
