Job Overview:

The 500 Janitor is responsible for performing a range of routine and semi-skilled cleaning tasks to ensure that office buildings, residential complexes, and other commercial or institutional facilities are maintained in a clean and orderly manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct thorough cleaning of rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, break rooms, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, and locker rooms.
  2. Polish lighting fixtures, marble surfaces, and trim to maintain a pristine appearance.
  3. Sweep and mop floors, with occasional operation of floor buffers.
  4. Clean rugs and carpets, as well as upholstered furniture and draperies.
  5. Dust furniture and equipment, ensuring all surfaces are free of debris.
  6. Wash walls, ceilings, and woodwork, including windows, door panels, and sills.
  7. Empty wastebaskets and clean ashtrays, transporting waste and recyclables to designated disposal areas.
  8. Replenish bathroom supplies as necessary.
  9. Manage the opening, closing, locking, and unlocking of facilities as required.
  10. Maintain records of completed work and tasks performed.
  11. Assist in moving and setting up furniture and fixtures as needed.
  12. Ensure grounds are kept clean, including parking lots and walkways.
  13. Conserve cleaning supplies and maintain equipment in good working condition.
  14. Understand and apply correct dilution rates for cleaning chemicals.
  15. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, complying with local, state, and federal regulations.
  16. Prioritize safety in all decision-making processes.
  17. Familiarize with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for all chemicals used.

Equipment Used:

No specific software requirements; general cleaning equipment such as mops, brooms, and pails will be utilized, along with buffers and vacuums.

Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: A minimum of one year of experience in a janitorial role is preferred, or a combination of education and training demonstrating the necessary knowledge and skills.

Physical Demands:

This position requires heavy work, including pushing objects up to 100 pounds and lifting or carrying items weighing up to 60 pounds. The role involves frequent bending, squatting, climbing, and walking throughout the facility.

Mental Demands:

Strong communication skills and a willingness to assist others are essential. The ability to understand and follow instructions is critical.

Working Conditions:

Exposure to dirt, dust, odors, chemicals, and potential infectious diseases is expected. Flexibility in scheduling is required, including availability for mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
