Job Title: Medical Assistant

Philadelphia FIGHT is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Medical Assistant to join our team at the John Bell Health Center. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting our healthcare team.

Responsibilities:
  • Escort patients to exam rooms and collect vital health information, including chief complaint, blood pressure, heart rate, height/weight, vision/hearing screens, etc.
  • Perform phlebotomy with specimen collection and processing, and coordinate care for patients needing lab visits and at off-site labs.
  • Administer injections and vaccinations in compliance with vaccine administration policies and procedures, and complete vaccine abstraction on all patients needing updated vaccine records in the Electronic Medical Record.
  • Perform point of care tests, such as Rapid HIV tests, strep tests, glucose measurement, urine dipstick, etc., and participate in running controls in compliance with CLIA.
  • Assist providers as a chaperone with any exam room procedures, and maintain exam room cleanliness and safety at the beginning and end of each clinic day, and between visits.
  • Monitor medical supply stock in both the exam rooms and in the supply closets, and coordinate monthly supply order with Nurse Manager.
  • Remove biohazard waste materials according to schedule, and maintain working relationship with consultants, including Stericycle and LabCorp to ensure proper waste disposal and phlebotomy/specimen collection and supply stock.
  • Check vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse oximetry, height, weight, and perform other tasks as needed.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Certified Medical Assistant or Registered Medical Assistant required.
  • Current CPR certification required, or renewal must be obtained within 60 days of employment.
  • 2-3 years of experience in a medical outpatient office environment, and experience working with an electronic medical record system, preferably eClinicalWorks.
  • Must be able to demonstrate judgment, patience, integrity, organization, and prioritization in a multi-task environment.
  • Must have attention to detail, dependability, listening and communication skills, and flexibility.
  • Must have cultural competency, and be able to pass State Child Abuse clearance.
  • Experience and desire to work with a diverse community of youth required; experience and desire to work with LGBTQ youth is preferred.
