Job Summary

The Manager of Sterile Processing is responsible for facilitating, coordinating, and delegating the processing and delivery of sterile instruments and equipment. This role requires 24/7 management of staffing and tasks, as well as promoting policy and procedure development. The Manager must consistently follow National Standards and Recommended Practices for Sterilization and utilize resources effectively to fulfill responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain a high-functioning team
  • Manage personnel, including interviewing, work allocation, orientation, and training
  • Plan, organize, and direct unit operations in accordance with recognized practice and accepted internal and external standards
  • Develop departmental scope of service and practice
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures related to the unit specialty
  • Direct processes to assess, improve, and maintain quality of practice
  • Participate in planning, development, and management of operational and equipment budgets
  • Evaluate collaborative care system and provide variance reports
  • Anticipate and recommend equipment purchases and space needs
  • Provide leadership and direction for staffing
  • Communicate with staff and keep them current with information through staff meetings, newsletters, and announcements
  • Investigate patient, visitor, employee, and physician incidents
  • Promote professional practice by mentoring unit staff and encouraging personal and professional growth
Requirements
  • High School Graduate or GED
  • Certification through an Accredited Organization (IAHCSMM) as a Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) and/or Graduate from an Accredited School of Surgical Technology with Certification (NBSTSA)
  • At least 5 years experience in a Central Service Role as a Technician, Team Leader, or Assistant Manager
  • Previous Management experience preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and evidence of continued professional development
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office is preferable
