Position Summary

The Bus Driver collaborates closely with the Excursion Coordinator to operate the transportation vehicle, ensuring the safe transit of residents and staff according to set schedules.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety and comfort of passengers during various trips, including medical appointments and errands, following facility protocols.
  • Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking from the bus.
  • Conduct routine minor maintenance on facility vehicles, including checks for operational readiness, refueling, and fluid levels.
  • Maintain accurate records related to vehicle operations and schedules.
  • Keep the vehicle clean and organized, ensuring an adequate supply of necessary equipment.
  • Foster effective relationships with staff, residents, family members, and external vendors.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and other required gatherings.
  • Report any unsafe conditions, accidents, or equipment issues to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding resident care and health information as mandated by regulations.
  • Support volunteers assisting with activities and report any inappropriate conduct.
  • Uphold residents' rights to fair treatment, privacy, and self-determination.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License in good standing is required.
  • A valid Class B Certification is necessary or must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • Willingness to participate in the Employer Pull Notice Program as mandated by the DMV.
  • Participation in the mandatory drug testing program is required.
  • A minimum of one year of bus driving experience is preferred.

Skills and Abilities

  • Organizational skills and basic computer proficiency to plan and evaluate resident activities.
  • Effective communication skills to engage with a diverse group of residents, guests, and volunteers.
  • Ability to work independently while being an integral part of a team.

Physical Requirements

  • Physical tasks may include lifting, bending, reaching, and prolonged periods of standing or walking.
  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds to a height of 5 feet and move such weight a distance of 50 feet.
  • Must be able to navigate the campus, which spans approximately 5-7 acres.
  • Ability to perceive and respond to various sensory stimuli essential for job functions.
  • Manual dexterity is required for handling equipment.
  • Must pass initial and annual TB tests.
