This is a Grant Funded Position.

Position Overview

The Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery - Program Director of Orthopedic Surgery position will be in the Department of Surgery at OSU COM. This position is actively involved in leadership and teaching of orthopedics residents.

Additionally, this position will have a clinical orthopedics practice at the OSU Medical Center.

Appropriate effort and activity in clinical research, service, and scholarly activity will also be necessary as well as a clinical record of sufficient depth to qualify for faculty appointment at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor.

The position will work with existing surgery/orthopedic surgery faculty.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the Orthopedic Surgery program
  • Teach and mentor orthopedics residents
  • Develop and implement clinical research projects
  • Contribute to the development of scholarly activity
  • Provide clinical orthopedics services at the OSU Medical Center
Requirements
  • M.D. degree
  • Eligible for licensure in the State of Oklahoma
  • Board Certification by the AOA or ABMS
  • Appropriate staff privileges at OSU MC
  • A minimum of four (4) years of clinical practice in the specialty post-residency/fellowship
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience as an associate program director of an ACGME accredited orthopedic surgery program, or, three (3) years of participation as an active faculty member in an AOA or AGCME accredited orthopedic surgery residency program
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of all areas related to the clinical practice of orthopedic surgery
  • Requires strong analytical skills, advanced multi-tasking skills, advanced problem-solving skills, practice management experience, and the ability to effectively plan
  • Computer skills are needed to operate electronic medical records
  • Good communication and leadership skills are a plus
  • Interpersonal skills are required to interact effectively with faculty, orthopedics resident physicians, medical students, patients, and providers
