Lead Engineer for Electrical and Control Systems

We are looking for seasoned engineering professionals in the domain of Electrical Engineering to oversee engineering services for diverse energy infrastructure initiatives across the Western and Southwestern United States. SPEC SERVICES INC. primarily caters to the energy sector through comprehensive system planning and meticulous design aimed at enhancing existing facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the engineering lead on projects related to medium and low voltage power systems, grounding, lighting, instrumentation, and control systems.
- Engage in client-oriented activities, including business development and proposal formulation.
- Guide and mentor junior engineering and design personnel.
- Draft data sheets and specifications for electrical equipment such as power distribution centers (PDC), switchgear, transformers, motor control centers (MCC), variable frequency drives (VFD), starters, and control panels.
- Conduct electrical calculations including short circuit analysis, load flow, motor starting, relay coordination, and arc flash studies utilizing ETAP or SKM software.
- Ensure Quality Assurance and/or Quality Control for the deliverables produced by other engineers.
- Participate in startup, performance evaluation, and troubleshooting activities.
- Contribute to planning, cost management, and scheduling for assigned projects.
- Develop and assess Total Installed Cost (TIC) estimates.
- Maintain effective communication and foster relationships with project team members and clients, emphasizing customer satisfaction and loyalty.
- Prepare and issue Requests for Quotations (RFQs), assess vendor quotations, and conduct Technical Bid Analysis.
- Review vendor documentation, drawings, datasheets, specifications, and calculations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering is mandatory.
- California Electrical Professional Engineer license is essential.
- A minimum of 15 years of professional experience, including at least 10 years in the utility or energy sectors and 5 years in a supervisory or management role.
- Field startup and troubleshooting experience is required.
- Proficient knowledge in electrical engineering and design, NEC, and API 500, along with practical electrical construction experience is necessary.
- Consulting experience (or EPC with Design & Engineering capabilities) is highly preferred.
- Some experience in electric utilities is advantageous.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, are required for interaction with clients and team members.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and BlueBeam is preferred.
- Experience with ETAP and/or SKM is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word is required.
- Working knowledge of instrumentation, programmable logic controllers (PLC), and distributed control systems (DCS) is beneficial.
- A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required.
