Lineman Journeyman

Evergy is seeking a skilled Lineman Journeyman to join our team in Topeka, Kansas. As a Lineman Journeyman, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical distribution and transmission systems, including conduits, cables, wires, transformers, circuit breakers, and switches.

• Install and maintain electrical distribution and transmission systems, including conduits, cables, wires, transformers, circuit breakers, and switches.
• Identify and repair defects in electrical distribution and transmission systems, including sectionalizing devices, circuit breakers, fuses, voltage regulators, transformers, switches, relays, or wiring.
• Inspect and test power lines and auxiliary equipment to locate and identify problems, using reading and testing instruments.
• String wire conductors and cables between poles, towers, trenches, pylons, and buildings, setting lines in place and using wenches to adjust tension.
• Replace or straighten damaged poles.
• Test voltage to ensure correct connections are made.
• Install watt-hour meters and connect service drops between power lines and consumers' facilities.
• Lay underground cable directly in trenches or string the cable through conduit running through the trenches.
• Analyze sites for the purpose of determining the safest and most efficient method to complete the task.

• Valid commercial driver's license.
• Ability to live within 30 minutes driving time of the Topeka Operations Center.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
• Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and materials.
• Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors.
