Security Officer Job Summary

The Security Officer is a vital member of our team at The Study at University of Chicago, responsible for ensuring the safety and security of our hotel personnel, guests, and premises. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct regular patrols of the hotel premises to identify and mitigate potential security risks.
  • Monitor CCTV cameras and respond to any security incidents or alarms.
  • Verify the identity of visitors and ensure they have the necessary clearance to access restricted areas.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Engineering to identify vulnerabilities in our security systems and implement solutions.
  • Investigate accidents, thefts, and other safety concerns, and coordinate with Human Resources to ensure a thorough and fair investigation.
  • Maintain accurate records of security incidents, including reports and incident logs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management to ensure the smooth operation of the hotel.
Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent Required
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
    • Strong organizational skills, including follow-up, time management, and ability to multi-task
    • Flexibility to work any shift, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
    • Proficiency in English required, Spanish speaking proficiency a plus
  • Experience:
    • 5+ years' experience in a security or related field
  • Physical:
    • Ability to grasp, lift, and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs
    • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods
    • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions
  • Other:
    • Must be at least 18 years of age
    • Satisfactory completion of background check
    • Copy of DD214, if Veteran status
