Job Summary

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Custodian to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our school buildings and adjacent grounds.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform custodial services to maintain assigned school buildings and adjacent ground areas clean, orderly, and secure.
  • Sweep, scrub, wax, and polish floors, walls, and other surfaces.
  • Clean and dust furniture, equipment, and other items.
  • Empty and clean waste receptacles, wash windows, and clean restrooms and drinking fountains.
  • Sweep sidewalks, pick up papers, and polish metal work.
  • Fill paper and soap dispensers, replace light bulbs, and replenish supplies.
  • Turn out lights, lock windows and doors, and assist with special events and meetings.
  • Report safety and fire hazards to supervisor and assist with minor repairs and upkeep of grounds during summer vacation.
  • Make periodic security checks of buildings and grounds.
Working Environment

The Custodian will work in a fast-paced environment with exposure to weather, extreme heat, and wet and/or humid conditions. The position requires sitting and standing for prolonged periods, moderate to heavy lifting, and manual dexterity.

Requirements
  • Any combination equivalent to one year of experience in custodial work.
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in cleaning various types of building surfaces and items of furniture.
  • Ability to maintain schedules providing for regular cleaning of all facilities assigned.
  • Ability to carry out oral and written instructions and work cooperatively with others.
Physical Demands

The Custodian must be able to perform the following physical demands:

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard.
  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and on the telephone.
  • Bending at the waist, kneeling, or crouching.
  • Reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally.
  • Sitting or standing for extended periods.
  • Seeing to read a variety of materials.
  • Lifting and moving office supplies and boxes.
Selection Process

The selection process for this position includes a Post Offer, Pre-Placement Physical Evaluation Program (PEP) and a criminal background check. The Education Code requires that a criminal background check be conducted on all persons prior to employment by a school district to ascertain whether the applicant has been arrested or convicted of any crime.
