Role Responsibilities:
The primary function of the Field Supervisor is to deliver on-site oversight and support the Recreation Coordinator-Programs in organizing youth and adult sports, special events, and assigned projects. This role averages 30 hours per week throughout the year, with a requirement for evening and weekend availability.
The City of Lakewood is actively seeking variable employees for this role. A variable employee is an at-will worker engaged in seasonal or temporary roles, with a work schedule determined by operational needs. This position is part-time and does not include benefits.

Core Responsibilities:
- Act as the on-site representative for program coaches, volunteers, participants, and officials.
- Conduct daily check-ins for programs, activities, and events.
- Manage and maintain all necessary documentation, including forms and attendance records.
- Address and mediate any issues that arise among participants, staff, officials, and the public.
- Implement the rain-out policy as necessary; cancel programs or events on-site when required, update the weather hotline, and inform the supervisor.
- Ensure proper preparation and setup of fields and facilities.
- Respond to accidents and emergency situations as needed.
- Consult with the supervisor regarding policies and procedures of the City, department, and programs.
- Participate in pre-season meetings for staff and participants, as well as additional program meetings.
- Report relevant information, including scores and incidents, to the supervisor at the end of each shift or sooner if urgent.
- Enforce policies and rules on-site, emphasizing safety and sportsmanship, including officiating games as necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule:
- Afternoons, evenings, and some weekends based on the season.
Key Job Functions:
- Maintain inventory of all program equipment.
- Distribute and track team shirts for participants.
- Collaborate effectively with all individuals involved in the program and other divisions.
- Maintain ongoing communication with the supervisor regarding program status.
- Assume responsibilities for scorekeeping, coaching, and officiating as required.
Supervision Structure:
- The Field Supervisor receives guidance from the Recreation Coordinator-Sports.
- The Field Supervisor oversees coaches and helps maintain community partnerships by representing the City in programs, activities, and events.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
Experience:
- Experience working with diverse populations and conditions.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Preferred experience in recreation programs, athletics, or related fields such as recreation, physical education, or coaching.
Compensation Range:
$15.08 - $18.41
Background and reference checks will be conducted for all regular and some variable/seasonal positions.
