Job Title: Bus Driver

At Katy Independent School District, we are seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Bus Driver to join our team. As a Bus Driver, you will be responsible for safely transporting students to and from school on a schedule assigned by the Transportation Department.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate school buses and related equipment in a safe and efficient manner, following all traffic laws, district policies, and Transportation Department regulations.
  • Follow guidance from dispatchers and request help when necessary.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report any mechanical problems or concerns.
  • Report involvement in any accidents or incidents in a timely manner.
  • Provide written or oral reports for discipline, routing, and state reports, as required.
  • Maintain effective student management and load/unload students from the bus following appropriate guidelines.
  • Perform emergency evacuations of students, if needed, and keep the interior of the vehicle clean and sanitized after each route/trip.
  • Communicate discipline procedures and/or problems to riders, parents, and principals.
  • Report work-related injuries and student injuries immediately to the Driver Manager.
  • Attend all required in-service trainings and safety meetings.
  • Establish and maintain regular and reliable attendance.
Working Conditions:

Maintain emotional and physical control under stress. Prolonged driving and sitting. Frequent walking, standing, twisting, climbing stairs, stooping, bending, grasping/squeezing, wrist and shoulder flexion/extension. Moderate lifting and carrying. Work outside and inside; work around vehicles and machinery with moving parts; frequent exposure to extreme temperatures, vehicle fumes, noise, and dust.

Requirements:
  • College hours, high school diploma or GED (preferred)
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Acceptable driving record as defined by TxDPS and Katy ISD
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements
  • School Bus Driver Certification or able to obtain within six months of hire date
  • Katy ISD School Bus Training Program completion or will complete within the first month of employment
  • Pass annual physical in accordance with state law
  • Negative result on drug and/or alcohol tests administered as pre-employment, random, post-accident, and/or reasonable suspicion basis, in accordance with federal law and district policy
  • Able to communicate in English in both written and oral
  • Able to read and interpret maps and routes
Equipment Used:

School buses, emergency equipment (triangle reflectors, fire extinguisher, bodily fluids kit, etc.), two-way radio, wheelchair lift, securements, fuel pump, cleaning equipment (sanitizer, rag, towel, broom, mop, etc.).
