The Operating Room Surgical Specialist plays a critical role in the surgical team, ensuring that all instruments and equipment are meticulously prepared for various surgical procedures. This position is essential in maintaining patient safety and quality of care, adhering to strict principles of surgical asepsis.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and organize surgical instruments and equipment prior to procedures.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon during operations, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
- Serve as a mentor and resource for new surgical technologists, guiding them through departmental orientation.
- Scrub in on a diverse range of surgical procedures, utilizing knowledge and skills to respond to changes in patient conditions.
Work Environment
This position is situated within a fast-paced Level I Trauma Center, where surgical technologists are expected to thrive under pressure and handle a variety of challenging situations.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Completion of an accredited surgical technology program or equivalent military training as a surgical corpsman or medic.
- A minimum of three years of demonstrated scrub experience in a surgical setting.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, with the requirement to maintain certification.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks, including lifting and moving equipment.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proven ability to manage time effectively and work independently.
