Job SummaryThe Brooklyn Hospital Center seeks a highly skilled Medical Director to lead its Stroke Program. As a key member of the hospital's medical staff, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care, supervising and teaching internal medicine residents, and collaborating with other services to ensure the highest quality of care.Key Responsibilities
  • Provide full scope of patient care services, including diagnosis, treatment, and coordination of care.
  • Supervise and teach internal medicine residents in neurology, medical students, and non-physician personnel.
  • Ensure timely completion of documentation, including quality data, progress notes, and co-signatures of various forms in the electronic medical record.
  • Collaborate with other services as directed by the Medical Director.
  • Provide care to hospital patients, including diagnosis, treatment, and referral, in accordance with recognized medical standards.
  • Document patient care data in the electronic medical records system, including consult notes, daily progress notes for inpatients, and encounters for outpatients.
  • Prescribe medication in accordance with applicable New York State statutes and regulations.
  • Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests to obtain information on medical conditions and determine diagnosis.
  • Advise and/or provide education to patients, family, guardians, caregivers, and community members.
  • Monitor patient conditions and progress and reevaluate treatment plans as necessary.
  • Refer patients to medical specialists or other practitioners when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control and safety standards of The Brooklyn Hospital Center.
  • Participate in staff outreach and off-site healthcare programs in The Brooklyn Hospital Center ambulatory care service areas, as assigned by the Medical Director.
  • Attend departmental staff meetings and other meetings and committees as requested by the Medical Director and/or Department Chair.
  • Participate in peer review, quality assurance, provider meetings, and other clinical meetings.
  • Assist in updating clinical protocols and guidelines, as requested.
  • Participate in in-service education and attend continuing medical education (CME) programs.
  • Maintain HIPAA confidentiality and privacy standards at all times.
  • Work with support, medical, and administrative staff in a positive, collaborative manner.
  • Contribute to the training of clinical personnel, including medical students and residents. May supervise mid-level practitioners (Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners).
  • Participate in the hospital's quality improvement programs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.)
  • Graduate of accredited residency program
Certifications
  • New York State Department of Health Certificate of Qualification
  • New York State Licensed Physician
Education
  • Board certified or board eligible in Neurology, Neurosurgery, Interventional Neuro-Radiology, Vascular Neurology, or Neuro-Critical Care
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
  • Appointment to the Medical Staff of The Brooklyn Hospital Center
