As a Cooperative Extension Intern, you will have the opportunity to work with our experienced professionals in various fields, including Agriculture and Natural Resources, Family and Consumer Sciences, 4-H Youth Development, Community Arts, State Extension Specialist, Community Relations and Engagement, Robinson Center for Appalachian Resource Sustainability, and Community and Leadership Development.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in conducting on-farm research and providing educational workshops
  • Write news articles and newsletters
  • Make farm visits and assist homeowners with horticultural questions
  • Work with community leaders and attend one week of overnight 4-H camp
  • Plan and conduct youth programs and activities for the county
  • Work directly with youth and adult volunteers
  • Assist in writing news articles and newsletters
  • Attend one week of overnight 4-H camp
  • Provide information and educational workshops related to horticulture
  • Assist with community gardens, farmers markets, Master Gardeners, and/or commercial horticulture producer visits
  • Assist in writing news articles and newsletters
  • Attend one week of overnight 4-H camp
  • Organize, promote, and manage community arts programs and market community arts programs and products
  • Work directly with youth and adults and partner with other community arts resources in the community
  • Attend one week of overnight 4-H camp
  • Assist State Specialist with organizing and implementing educational programs and/or research in their respective discipline area
  • May attend one week of overnight 4-H camp
  • Support various projects, including communications and marketing and programs such as the Junior MANRRS program and camps and ACE support of the Adelante Academy
  • Students will also spend time with local county agents and campus partners to gain hands-on experience in the field
  • May attend one week of overnight 4-H camp
  • Work in Agriculture and Natural Resources and assist with Horticulture research projects taking place at RCARS and assist any specialist with programming
  • There will be some administrative duties in the office
  • Will be working in the field with crops and provide assistance at the Robinson Forest
  • May attend one week of overnight 4-H camp
  • Work on the UK campus with CLD specialists in Extension to support programming outreach, assist with community resource podcast creation and participating in professional conference planning
  • May attend one week of overnight 4-H camp

Requirements:

  • Cumulative minimum GPA of 2.75 or higher based on a 4.0 scale
  • 45 credit hours at the time of application
  • UNOFFICIAL transcript, resume, and cover letter required

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR) and Horticulture interns must be enrolled in an area of Agriculture or Horticulture
  • Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS) interns must be enrolled in an area of FCS
  • 4-H interns do not have a specific required major
