Job Overview

Nassau Suffolk Services for Autism is seeking dedicated professionals to support students with autism in diverse school districts throughout Nassau and Suffolk County. As a Special Education Teacher, you will have the opportunity to work closely with students, providing individualized support and guidance to help them thrive academically, behaviorally, and personally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct formal and informal assessments of assigned students.
  • Develop and implement educational, behavioral, and social curricula in conjunction with classroom staff and site-based teams.
  • Assist in writing IEP goals, objectives, and updates.
  • Attend staff meetings and collaborate with colleagues to ensure student success.
  • Implement student behavioral programs and goals.
  • Collect and record data on student progress.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and home staff.
  • Evaluate student progress and update programming as needed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, or related field.
  • RBT certification a plus.
  • Valid NYS Driver's License and acceptable driving history.
  • Minimum of two years teaching experience preferred.
  • New York State Certification in Special Education or Students with Disability a plus.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis principles.
  • Basic language, written, and computer skills necessary for communication and documentation.
  • Ability to support individuals with challenging behavior.
  • Ability to assist with activities of daily living.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb, and lift, push, pull, and hold 50 pounds or more.
