Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Sanitation Driver to join our team at the City of Kirkwood. As a Sanitation Driver, you will be responsible for collecting and transporting residential waste, refuse, and recycling in a safe and efficient manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and transport residential waste, refuse, and recycling using a refuse truck.
  • Pick up solid waste, recycling, and/or yard waste from streets, dumpsters, and back yards.
  • Operate the hydraulic system of the refuse truck to unload dumpsters.
  • Check the assigned vehicle daily and report any problems regarding the vehicle's operating condition.
  • Make decisions regarding acceptable solid waste and yard waste, recyclable materials, hazardous waste, and waste banned from landfill disposal.
Requirements
  • A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with an air brakes endorsement or a CDL Class A.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Knowledge of safe and proper operation of all mechanical and hydraulic equipment on a refuse collection vehicle.
  • Ability to advise the public in a courteous manner regarding the policies of the City concerning sanitation collection.
  • Availability to work evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends, with overtime as necessary.
