Building Inspector

We are seeking a highly skilled Building Inspector to join our team at the City of Enterprise, AL. As a Building Inspector, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with building codes and ordinances by conducting inspections and enforcing regulations.

• Conduct building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and property maintenance inspections to validate compliance with adopted codes and ordinances.
• Document findings, including violations, and maintain related records.
• Issue stop-work orders as appropriate and notify responsible parties of problems.
• Review construction documents, plans, and engineered details for code compliance and inclusion of required life safety details.
• Respond to complaints from the public regarding unpermitted work and issue stop-work orders for unpermitted work.
• Perform code enforcement duties as assigned, including conducting field inspections of alleged code and ordinance violations.
• Prepare written inspection reports and issue warnings and citations as necessary.

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to work non-standard hours, including weekends, holidays, and overtime.
• Valid driver's license issued by the State of Alabama for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
• Ability to obtain an inspection certification by the International Code Council within three years of hire.
• Planning and zoning official certification or ability to obtain within two years of hire.
