Job Summary

The Fabrication Specialist/Belt Technician performs splicing procedures, including vulcanization and mechanical on conveyor belts, troubleshoots conveyors, installs belts on conveyors, and trains conveyor belts. This is a safety-sensitive position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Communicate with crew leader and site plant personnel accordingly.
  • Adhere to all RGA and site policies, instructions, procedures, and safety guidelines in accordance with applicable OSHA and MSHA regulations.
  • Maintain all work-related documentation, including DOT logbooks, pre-departure safety inspections, work area safety inspections, and HAZCOM Safety Data Sheets.
  • Repair, splice, and vulcanize all types of conveyor belts, troubleshoot and install belts on conveyors, and train conveyor belts.
  • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase the efficiency of the work crew.
  • Report to shop foreman of assigned profit center when not performing belt crew duties, including belt, hose, and gasket fabrication, welding, and general housekeeping duties.
  • Conduct general housekeeping in accordance with applicable OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to work in a timely manner, demonstrate attention to detail, follow RGA policies and procedures, uphold RGA values, and maintain regular and timely attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
  • Regular and reliable attendance required.
  • Follow directions of supervisors and trainers.
  • Follow directions of RGA policies and procedures.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • No direct reports.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Ability to perform each of the essential duties and responsibilities successfully, including the use of reasoning, communicating, calculating, analyzing, problem-solving, and leading as needed.
  • Ability to complete work in a timely manner and demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Ability to obtain belt splicing certification within 180 days of employment and pass other required certification exams.

Education and Experience

  • Preferred: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

  • Must have a valid, active Driver's License with an insurable driving record.
  • May be required to obtain a commercial Driver's License.

Travel

  • Must be able to travel as required.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to occasionally lift at least 100 lbs, frequently lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to repetitively stand, climb, stoop, crouch, reach, walk, and bend.
  • Must be able to work long hours.
  • Occasionally required to sit.
  • Must be able to talk and hear.

Work Environment

  • Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions.
  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and outside weather conditions.
  • Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, high, precarious places, and vibration.
  • Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold or heat, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation, and very loud noise levels.

Must pass a DOT drug test upon offer.
