SALARY RANGE: $45.16 hourly (based on experience)

POSITION SUMMARY:

Officers within the Riverton Police Department are sworn law enforcement professionals tasked with essential public safety responsibilities. They are expected to maintain readiness and respond to service calls or take necessary law enforcement actions. Officers will work varied shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays, as dictated by departmental needs. Candidates should be proactive, adaptable, and capable of overcoming challenges while representing the Riverton Police Department with professionalism.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: (NOT ALL-INCLUSIVE)

  • Meet performance expectations set by supervisors.
  • Patrol designated areas using various modes of transportation, including vehicles, bicycles, or on foot.
  • Respond to emergency calls and secure crime scenes for evidence collection.
  • Conduct initial investigations and interview involved parties.
  • Complete necessary documentation and reports.
  • Assist in investigations and execute arrests as needed.
  • Enforce traffic laws and assist motorists, issuing citations when appropriate.
  • Investigate incidents involving driving under the influence, reckless driving, and other traffic-related issues.
  • Manage police records and documentation through the department's management system.
  • Prepare for court appearances and provide testimony as required.
  • Transport individuals in custody and manage unruly detainees when necessary.
  • Maintain and care for assigned equipment and vehicles.
  • Engage in community relations to foster a positive departmental image.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Be punctual and present at assigned locations with required equipment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by superiors.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Utah POST certification or eligibility for certification.
  • Minimum of one year of law enforcement experience.
  • Current Utah Class D Driver's License with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to meet physical fitness standards required by the department.
  • Proficiency with firearms and successful completion of a background check.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficient in basic computer applications.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • High ethical standards and professionalism.
  • Basic technical skills with law enforcement equipment.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

The selected candidate must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening and a thorough background investigation. This position includes a probationary period.
