Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced SOCC Controller to join our team at Summit Midstream Corporation. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for monitoring and controlling natural gas and NGL through pipelines, ensuring safe and efficient operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute the daily operating plan to ensure daily scheduled receipts and deliveries are met within DOT and tariff standards.
  • Operate and control the flow of product through pipelines from the Summit Operations Control Center (SOCC) utilizing a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.
  • Document all relevant operational information in the Event Logger during the shift.
  • Communicate operating plan and system status as part of shift change-over briefing.
  • React to abnormal and emergency operating conditions, dispatch field personnel, and/or take necessary action to resolve said condition.
  • Recommend operating improvements and dispatch field personnel to problem areas for a system of pipe.
  • Monitor flows, pressures, and qualities across the system and respond to SCADA system alarms to provide safe and reliable service.
  • Monitor all alarms and respond to such alarms following the established protocol, including documentation and call-out procedures.
  • Assist in the execution of adjustments to pipeline flows to best meet current and anticipated customer demands.
  • Assist Scheduling Group in managing imbalances with customers while delivering a high level of customer service in a non-discriminatory manner.
  • Assist in the troubleshooting of SCADA, communications, and measurement system issues, as well as issues with various operating tools used by the Control Room.
  • Mitigate impacts of planned and unplanned facility outages.
  • Interface with schedulers and maintain collaborative inter-departmental and cross-functional working relationships with all members of the department and with both office and field employees.
  • Maintain proactive communication with Control Center Management and keep them informed of the operational status of the pipeline system.
  • Ensure all internal and external customer issues are managed based on established procedures/protocols.
  • Complete Operator Qualification Training as required by Company and DOT regulations.
  • Meet DOT Operator Qualification requirements and maintain that qualification at required intervals.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma, G.E.D.
  • Work experience with a natural gas gathering and transmission system.
  • Additional higher education, including technical work, is preferred.
  • At least 2 years prior control center experience in the pipeline or oil industry; related work experience may include field technician, meter inspector, station operator, controls technician, and other pipeline and mechanical work.
  • Basic Knowledge of pipeline operations, including station operations and pipeline hydraulics.
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems.
  • Prior control center experience in the pipeline or natural gas/oil industry.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; including ability to hold effective conversations with other Controllers, Management, Schedulers, Field Operators, and other constituents.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and effectively manage operations occurring simultaneously on different pipelines.
  • High level of initiative, and ability to often work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Ability to comfortably interact with employees at all levels.
  • Ability to effectively organize, prioritize and plan daily work.
  • Ability and willingness to work with a team, take directions from supervisor(s), with a high degree of attention to detail, follow work rules and adhere to established work schedules.
  • Possess organization and planning skills to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule, which includes holidays, weekends, night shifts and overtime with minimal time away from console during shift.
