Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Tax Consultant to join our team at Compeer Financial. As a Tax Consultant, you will be responsible for providing tax planning and preparation services to clients, managing the delivery of tax and accounting products and services, and promoting and marketing tax and accounting products and services to clients and eligible prospects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform tax projections and work with clients to develop strategic tax plans in accordance with Compeer policies and procedures and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) code requirements.
  • Provide tax and accounting consulting services on a wide range of issues affecting clients.
  • Prepare and sign income tax returns for individual, partnership and corporate clients.
  • Recognize and match Compeer products based on client needs.
  • Prepare payroll tax, 1099, W2 and related forms and reports.
  • Collect on delinquent client accounts.
  • Establish and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Maintain trial balance, general ledger and fixed asset schedules for internal and non-accounting clients.
  • Assist clients with questions regarding accounting processes, records and outcomes using QuickBooks Software.
  • Provide technical accounting expertise to team members when questions arise.
  • Advise local peer group members on tax law changes and the affects to client businesses.
  • Mentor and provide training and feedback to tax and accounting team members on tax law, tax software and accounting principles according to established best practices.
  • Lead Compeer team members on client visits and at agriculture or community events to develop knowledge in all Compeer products and services.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in tax planning and preparation.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Enrolled Agent (EA) certification required.
  • Ability to earn certification by passing the Farm Credit Services Tax Exam within two attempts.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations and compliance requirements specific to the financial industry and Farm Credit.
  • Ability to communicate Compeer's "value added" business and financial concepts to attract new prospects.
  • Advanced knowledge of tax and accounting products and services.
  • Advanced knowledge of tax and accounting policies and procedures.
  • Experience in planning and preparation of farm taxes preferred.
  • Strong listening, written and verbal communication skills, with ability to communicate at all levels of the organization.
  • Exercises a high level of ethical and professional judgement.
  • Skill in developing and maintaining interpersonal relationships.
  • High level of integrity.
  • Strong problem solving, decision making and organizational skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office applications and tax and accounting software.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Willingness to facilitate projects.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends from November to May in order to meet deadlines and client expectations.
  • Ability to grow client portfolio.
  • Valid driver's license.
