Job Title: Juvenile Detention Officer

Coconino County is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Juvenile Detention Officer. In this role, you will be responsible for providing a safe and supportive environment for detained youth, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being, and promoting their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide daily care and supervision of detained youth, ensuring their safety and well-being
  • Conduct security checks, room checks, and maintain security of the juvenile detention facility
  • Coordinate and control the movement and activities of detained youth
  • Deescalate, discipline, and physically restrain detainees as needed
  • Provide crisis intervention and support to youth in crisis
  • Assist in escorting or transporting youth
  • Perform kitchen duties, including preparing and serving meals, dishwashing, and cleaning
  • Maintain youth social files, write reports, and enter timely and accurate data into the Juvenile On-line Tracking System (JOLTS)
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Associate degree in a related field or one year of experience working with juveniles in a residential setting
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must submit to a background check prior to hire
  • Must obtain First Aid/CPR certification within the first 3 months on the job
  • Must successfully complete an additional 16 hours of COJET certified training each year thereafter
