Summary:
This role requires a highly skilled and experienced coding professional to perform medical record coding and documentation reviews, provide coding education, and act as a resource for coding staff and leadership.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of ICD and CPT coding systems, as well as experience working with electronic medical records and coding software.
They will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with healthcare providers, coders, and other stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
*Perform inpatient, observation, ambulatory surgery, emergency department, and other outpatient encounters coding/billing reviews and any follow-up reviews to ensure accurate and compliant coding and billing.
*Develop and implement coding and documentation training programs for new coders and healthcare providers.
*Participate in activities related to annual code updates, including reviewing impact on inpatient, outpatient, and professional coding and providers, system upgrade testing, developing training documents, and providing training to coding staff and healthcare providers.
How You'll Be Successful:
WORK EXPERIENCE
Minimum of five years of progressive inpatient and outpatient coding or coding review experience with claims processing and data management responsibilities.
Knowledge of AHA and CMS coding guidelines, CPT/HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM/PCS coding systems, NCCI, and LCD edits.
PC proficient, with a functional knowledge of facility EMR, encoder, and other support software.
Experience working in academic teaching and pediatric facilities.
EDUCATION
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Two-year associate degree or equivalent experience preferred.
Four-year bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) required.
- Clinical Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP) or Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) preferred.
