The YMCA of Greater New York is seeking a skilled Maintenance Worker/Porter I to join our team at the Coney Island YMCA. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of our building and grounds.
Key Responsibilities:- Ensure the Coney Island YMCA is attractive and clean by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintaining upkeep of assigned area and equipment.
- Perform wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, pool cleaning, painting, vacuuming, seasonal activities dealing with lawn care and snow removal, and general cleaning.
- Operate related motorized and non-motorized equipment.
- Record and report all needed repairs; repair as directed.
- Ensure the Coney Island YMCA building and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.
- Replace soap, paper towels, and other supplies.
- May set up furniture and/or rooms for events.
- Strip and wax floors, also shampoo rugs as needed.
- Follow standards of DOH, DOB, FDNY, HPD, and ECB Departments.
- Follow YMCA Housekeeping Policies and Procedures.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of six (6) months of related experience.
- Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment, along with basic understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment.
- Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use.
- Obtain YMCA Housekeeping Certificate within 1 year of attaining position.
