Global Import Logistics Manager

The Judge Group is seeking a highly skilled Ocean Import Manager to join their team in San Francisco, CA. This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
Job DescriptionThis role involves overseeing all aspects of the ocean import process, from initial import order to final delivery to the customer's warehouse. Key responsibilities include operational management, customer relationship management, logistics and operations, documentation and compliance, and financial management.
- Operational Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the ocean import department, ensuring smooth and efficient processes. Manage a team of ocean import specialists, providing leadership, guidance, and training. Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement strategies to improve efficiency and productivity.
- Customer Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, understanding their specific needs and requirements. Provide excellent customer service, resolving issues promptly and effectively. Proactively communicate with customers regarding shipment status, delays, and any other relevant information.
- Logistics and Operations: Coordinate with shipping lines, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and other service providers to ensure timely and accurate shipment delivery. Negotiate rates with carriers and other service providers to optimize costs. Monitor shipment progress and proactively address any issues or delays. Ensure compliance with all relevant import regulations, including customs, security, and hazardous materials regulations.
- Documentation and Compliance: Prepare and review all necessary import documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, and customs declarations. - Financial Management: Monitor and control departmental expenses, ensuring cost-effectiveness. Prepare and analyze financial reports, including revenue and cost analysis. Identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvement.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in ocean import operations.
- A strong understanding of international trade regulations, customs procedures, and logistics processes.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in relevant software applications, such as TMS, ERP, and customs clearance systems.
The estimated salary range for this position is $95,000 - $115,000 per year, depending on experience. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) matching, and paid time off.
