Position Summary:

Fisk University is in search of a dedicated faculty member who possesses a strong commitment to teaching and student development.

The chosen candidate will be responsible for providing academic guidance, mentoring students, and engaging in initiatives that enhance the overall college experience.

The faculty member will collaborate effectively to advance the goals of the criminal justice program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver a full course load (12 credit hours per semester) in Criminal Justice
  • Participate in Community Service initiatives
  • Engage in Research Activities
  • Attend and present at Professional Conferences relevant to the field
  • Attract students to the Criminal Justice program
  • Support academic advising for Criminal Justice and Homeland Security majors
  • Conduct audits for Junior and Senior students in the Criminal Justice and Homeland Security programs
  • Prepare and submit class schedules to the Discipline Coordinator
  • Propose curriculum modifications for departmental review
  • Assist in monitoring the effectiveness of faculty/student advising interventions
  • Supervise tasks related to student admissions, transfers, and graduations
  • Ensure the accuracy and relevance of program content on the departmental website
  • Contribute to initiatives aimed at enhancing student engagement and retention
  • Facilitate internship opportunities for students in criminal justice and homeland security
  • Online teaching experience is preferred
  • Oversee collaborative program initiatives
  • Ensure timely submission of course rosters, syllabi, and assessment data

Additional Duties

  • Compile data and prepare comprehensive reports
  • Represent the department and the university in various capacities
  • Serve on or lead committees as necessary
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Dean of the School of Humanities and Behavioral Social Sciences

Educational Background

Qualifications

Education:
An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) from an accredited institution in Sociology or Criminal Justice is preferred.

Experience:
A minimum of one year of teaching experience in higher education, particularly in emergency management and homeland security.
Demonstrated field experience at local, state, or federal levels in homeland security.
Experience with GIS is also required.

Licenses or Certifications:
None required.

Additional Requirements:

A background and/or credit check will be required of the successful applicant.

Along with a cover letter, candidates must submit a current CV and a statement outlining their teaching philosophy.

A list of references and unofficial transcripts of all academic work completed at or above the Baccalaureate level must also be provided.

An official transcript (if applicable) and contact information for three references will be required from the successful candidate.


Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
