Position Overview:
This role involves providing personalized nutrition guidance to university students within a clinical environment. As a vital member of the Health Services Clinical team, the individual will collaborate with medical and counseling professionals to deliver tailored nutrition recommendations for patients. In addition to the primary clinical responsibilities, this position will leverage nutrition expertise to assess and analyze data, identifying the needs of the campus community to develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate programs aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles throughout the university. The approach of Health Services is centered on a non-diet, weight-inclusive philosophy, and the Nutrition Specialist will embody this principle.
Role Responsibilities:
60% of the time, the Nutrition Specialist will:

(Nutrition Counseling)
  • Engage in one-on-one nutrition consultations with students.
  • Deliver individualized nutrition education, assessment, counseling, and case management based on established therapeutic practices.
  • Utilize Medical Nutrition Therapy and adhere to the Nutrition Care Process during consultations.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and FERPA regulations throughout the nutrition counseling process.
  • Advise individuals on optimal nutrition needs and objectives, providing customized meal and snack plans to support both short-term and long-term health goals.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in electronic medical records, detailing patient symptoms, nutrition assessments, recommendations, and progress.
  • Collaborate with the clinical team to offer nutritional guidance to patients.
35% of the time, the Nutrition Specialist will:

(Health Education and Promotion)
  • Partner with campus and community stakeholders on nutrition education initiatives, policies, and programs.
  • Design and deliver health education programs, workshops, and initiatives focused on nutrition education and body positivity, such as cooking classes and awareness campaigns.
  • Foster cooperative relationships with organizations interested in nutrition education and body positivity initiatives. Represent the organization to the public and external stakeholders.
  • Act as a resource for nutrition education, referring individuals and groups to appropriate campus or community resources based on their needs.
  • Assist in leading campus-wide initiatives related to nutrition education.
  • May supervise graduate assistants and student employees in the execution of health programs and objectives.
5% of the time, the Nutrition Specialist will:
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Knowledge and proficiency in evidence-based nutrition counseling.
  • Experience in teaching and instructing individuals and groups, along with evaluating training outcomes.
  • Ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in writing.
  • Familiarity with various methods of informing and engaging through written, oral, and visual media.
  • Experience in conveying information effectively and using logic to evaluate alternative solutions.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent, along with 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Current Registered Dietician Nutritionist (RDN) License, licensed in the State of Idaho.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in a college or university health and wellness setting.
  • Understanding of Health at Every Size, intuitive eating, and a non-diet, weight-inclusive approach.
  • Experience in delivering educational presentations and facilitating discussions with diverse groups.
  • At least 1 year of experience as a dietician.
Compensation and Benefits:

The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $70,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Boise State University offers a comprehensive benefits package, which includes:
